Furthur Design is a line of functional glassware and handmade objects. It consists of contemporary shapes and modern designs with an eye towards the future.Created using traditional techniques, the designs utilize the natural attributes of glass to bring contemporary ideas to realization. While each grouping has machine-made qualities, they have distinctly hand blown features and an organic appeal. Established in 2003 by William Couig, all of FurthurDesign's work is hand made to order by Bill and his colleagues in Brooklyn, NY. This allows for any of the designs to be fully customized. Additionally, Bill's near 20 years of experience fabricating work allows him to offer a wide range of custom services involving any blown, sculpted or coldworked glass.
About William Couig
William Couig is a glass artist living and working in New York City. After receiving a B.A. in Literature and Writing from the Johns Hopkins University, Bill discovered glass while spending a year backpacking around the world. While working as a gaffer and designer in New York, Bill began developing his Logic Series of multiple component structures and it soon became his primary sculptural endeavor. In 2003, Bill was awarded a residency at Wheaton Arts in Millville, New Jersey as part of the Creative Glass Center of America’s Fellowship Program. While there he worked on new designs for his Logic Series as well as developing the design work he does under the name FurthurDesign. In the following years, his work was twice included in The Smithsonian Craft Show as well as SOFA New York and SOFA Chicago. At the same time, FurthurDesign has established itself as vital contributor to the New York design landscape, participating in the AD Home Show and Accent on Design at NYNOW while also developing collaborative commissions with a variety of clients including Calvin Klein Home, Eleven Madison Park and the NoMad Hotel.
